Board of Directors Meeting
October 6, 2003


Present: Eliza Strode (Vice-President), Andrew Weaver (Treasurer), Mike Wiecek (President) , Ed Barsamian (General Manager), Melitta Jakab and Betsy Adams (board members)

Absent: Jeff Rosenblum, Sujatha Byraven, Elisa Alonzo

Changes to the agenda: none

Minutes: The minutes were not included in the board packet and will approved next month

President's Report - Mike Wiecek The president reports that he is very tired.

Eyes and Ears of the Board
- Andrew reported that JP produce looked good last weekend and ziplock bags were back in stock. He questioned why there are no local blueberries available and that they were very high priced when blueberries are in season. Mike said that the Idaho peaches are great. Melitta noticed that the sign in front of Cambridge store is really sunbleached. Ed reported that the sign has been replaced. Melitta also said that the locally grown tomatoes were all green and that at the olive bar all of the containers are huge, need smaller containers.

Committee Reports
MSSC:
- NASRO. There was a motion for Harvest to make known to its members the availability of individually purchased health insurance through NASRO with a statement disclaiming Harvest's endorsement or responsibility. This issue was tabled until a board member makes a recommendation or proposal.

Membership Committee:
- Melitta reported that the Community Fund only got five applications. The membership committee decided that voting on the recipients will not happen as part of ballot election.

Nominations and Elections Committee:
- Betsy dropped off proofing sheets for the election and should be getting them in the next day or two. Mike asked to remind all the candidates to show up at annual meeting. There are seven candidates for four slots.

Annual Meeting:
- Ed is supervising the implementation of plans for the annual meeting. Didi Emmonds is the speaker this year. Mike said to think about backlog at check-in table, because things moved slow there last year

GM Report - public:
- Ed showed the new produce signs
- On Oct. 28 Harvest will be the primary sponsor of the Vegetarian food festival
- In store recycling is up and running in Cambridge
- Jeffrey Smith doing book signing in Cambridge on Oct. 7
- In JP working on repairing broken floor tiles
